The municipal corporation may soon take action against illegal construction at former Congress councillor Amrit Varsha Rampal's house. The town planning wing of local government department some days ago in its letter had asked the civic body to take action against 'illegal construction' and 'illegal commercial activities' going on inside former councillor's house.
A series of complaints against the Congress leader have been made by residents of the J block in Sarabha Nagar, who claim that illegal commercial activities at the home of Rampal were resulting in problems for them.
Kripal Singh, who lives in the adjoining house of Rampal, had shot several letters to the town planning wing and other authorities stating that Rampal has conducted illegal construction at his house and that he was also using the premises for commercial activities against norms.
Rampal, meanwhile, claimed that nothing illegal was going on in the house. But the recent letter by the town and country planning wing has put aside their claims asking the MC to demolish the illegal construction and also to make provision to stop commercial activities in the house.
The letter sent to Municipal Commissioner Rahul Tewari by the town planning wing of local government department said: “As per Sarabha Nagar development scheme, illegal commercial activities being run from residential plots in Ludhiana should be stopped immediately and illegal construction on these plots, which is not compoundable should be demolished as per the law.”
“It is instructed to take further action after verifying the width of the road in front of these plots, from the approved development scheme of Ludhiana Improvement Trust,” the letter added.
Meanwhile, Congress openly came in support of the former councillor calling it a political conspiracy. They said Rampal was being falsely implicated in the case.
Parminder Mehta, spokesperson of the Congress said: “There is no commercial activity going on at Rampal's house. Being a senior lawyer Rampal and her husband meet clients at their home, but this is not a commercial activity.”
“It is a political conspiracy of the opponents, who are trying to irritate her,” Mehta said.
A Congress delegation, including district president Pawan Dewan and leader of the Opposition in the house Hemraj Aggarwal among others met MC commissioner Rahul Tewari few days ago and presented him a memorandum asking that no action should be taken against Rampal's house.
It is pertinent to mention that HT has found that several commercial organisations such as Kutchina Electronics and Home.
Appliances Works as well as Sangita Studio of Performing Arts operates from 170 J, Rampal's house, in violation of norms, which rubbishes his claims. Several people visit the premises everyday and several vehicles are seen parked in front of the house throughout the day setting aside her claims.
