SAS Nagar: Facing challenges in garnering public participation to make SAS Nagar litter-free, SAS Nagar municipal corporation (MC) now moves to virtual world to reach out to residents with message of cleanliness along with connecting to the youth.
Hoping to pump a fresh lease to its cleanliness campaign, Municipal Corporation had created a Facebook page through which it intends to connect to the youth of the town and ensure their support on cleanliness campaign launched as part of Swachh Bharat Mission.
“Swachh Bharat MC SAS Nagar” page would be used not only to spread awareness but also information regarding initiatives undertaken would be uploaded on the page. However the page has failed to get support in virtual world also as only 159 “likes”.
Apart from tapping virtual world, MC for proper mapping of the city would be installing 300 additional dustbins in residential and markets areas as an endeavor to make the town litter free.
For this already 300 crucial points have been identified and in one month dustbins would be installed in every possible area to check littering. On daily basis garbage would be lifted from these places and a sanitary inspector would be supervising the lifting of the garbage from these points.
Last year as part of Swachh Bharat campaign about 400 dustbins were installed in the town but these were restricted to market areas only. Reviewing the complaints regarding littering in various area it was pointed out that there are no dustbins in the residential areas thus facilitating littering.
So MC has now decided to concentrate on the residential areas. Not just this the 400 dustbins that were installed in SAS Nagar as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have been damaged and they too need to be changed.
Sources in MC claim that the pipe supporting the dustbins of iron was weak that got damaged while lifting garbage. MC had now decided to have a cemented base made for the old as well as new dustbins to ensure that there is not littering around these dustbins and to prevent the same from getting damaged
Joint commissioner municipal corporation, Kamal Kant Goyal said, “we are committed to make SAS Nagar litter free. In next one month 300 dustbins will be installed in the town in addition to already installed 400.”
