The Ludhiana municipal corporation has postponed the demolition drive that was scheduled to start from Tuesday on all scheduled roads and highways in the city.
The drive was postponed as a majority of the protection force has been sent to Jalandhar to carry out the rescue operation as a factory building collapsed there on Sunday night.
According to sources, with an eye on the MCL elections, a majority of the councillors and other politicians are reluctant to carry out the demolition drive.
The squads established for the demolition drive gathered at the office of Zone-A at 8am. At 10am, they received a message that they would have to carry out the demolition sans protection forces.
The squads found it risky to initiate the drive sans security and they denied.
The municipal corporation was to start a demolition drive against 17 buildings that were built by breaching the building bylaws.
"We will decide the next date for the demolition drive later," said an MCL official.
