The employees of the municipal corporation of Bathinda (MCB) held a rally here to protest against the alleged statement of chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) and member of the legislative assembly (MLA) from the city Sarup Chand Singla in which he had called all the MCB employees corrupt.
More than 1,100 employees work with the MCB on permanent and contractual basis. CPS Singla had raided the MCB office last Monday and had expressed dissatisfaction over the work culture in the MCB.
“We read his statements in several newspapers in which he called all employees of the MCB corrupt. How it can be true and it is totally wrong to give such defamatory impression against all MCB officials,” said Bhola Singh, chairman of the employees’ union.
He said, “We work with integrity. If there is any doubt in Singla’s mind, then he has all the options to conduct an inquiry. He is part of the government in the state and has access to all the agencies to conduct inquiry. But, calling everyone corrupt is not tolerable,”
“Singla must be aware of the fact that MCB runs under his government and, if he is calling employees corrupt, then it means he is calling his own government in the state corrupt. He must choose his words carefully,” said Bhola Singh.
He said, “We have given a memorandum to the MC commissioner in this regard and demanded of the CPS to take back his words.”
Apart from this, MCB officials also raised their long-pending demands. They have threatened to intensify their protest if their demands were not fulfilled.
CPs To Listen People’s Problem Every Week
Jolted by the defeat of around 30,000 votes from Bathinda urban assembly constituency in parliamentary elections, CPS Singla has said that he would listen to the problems of the people every week in the office of the MCB. Issuing a statement, he said roads and sewerage system will be constructed in every ward of the city.
