Ludhiana: The municipal corporation (MC) started 10 new city buses on the bus stand to Ayali Chowk route on Saturday.

The much-awaited buses that will now ply at a frequency of 10 minutes on this route would cater to a major part of the city.

The route has been carved in such a way that it would touch major parts of different areas and provide relief to the residents from ever increasing traffic. The bus would pass from near Aggar Nagar, Rajguru Nagar and even Sarabha Nagar.

The MC also has plans to increase the number of buses on this route, if the traffic increases in the coming days.

On the one hand, these buses would be a boon for Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) students coming from the areas from where the bus would pass, on the other hand, it will also provide relief to the students of PCTE College on Ferozepur Road.

City bus service manager Baljit Singh said, “Though the response on the route was always encouraging, buses on this route were discontinued a few months ago due to some reasons. However, we are hopeful that residents will get benefit with more buses plying on the rote.”

He said buses on another route from bus stand to Sahnewal would also be started shortly.

A fleet of 70 city buses is plying on a total of 7 routes, including the one initiated on Saturday.
