The municipal corporation (MC) carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the city, demolishing illegal constructions, on Tuesday.
The drive started from Mohalla Kot Ram Das where a commercial building was bulldozed. The building owner said MC officials gave him a day's notice, while according to rules at least three days is given before demolition.
However, the MC town planners who were supervising the drive denied that any rules were violated. The drive was being assisted by municipal town planner Tej Preet. Assistant town planner Ramesh Chabra was also present.
The drive also included areas of Model Town, Basti Sheikh, Nijatam Nagar and Sodal Road near JMP Factory. Most of them were commercial structures, being built without approval from the MC's town planning department.
Meanwhile, the owners alleged that the civic body was targeting the small fish while leaving out the big sharks who had "political contacts".
