Ludhiana Municipal Corporation will soon auction the three prime parking locations in the city, and make them paid. The three locations, include Sarabha Nagar Market, Malhar Road and Ghumar Mandi area, which have maximum footfall in the city.

Municipal corporation took the decision to auction the three sites after it was found that controlling the parking at these areas had become a tedious job for the traffic police, as they could not station many officials at these areas.

The contractor who would take the contract would be required to take care of the traffic flow in these areas. MC would put a condition in the contract that it would be the duty of the contractor to manage the traffic in these areas.

MC additional commissioner Isha Kalia said, "The lots will be auctioned soon after a date for auction is published. Rate of parking will be fixed after discussing with the MC officials."
She said the date of auction would be highlighted so that more and more people come to manage the sites.

Sources said the reserve price of the parking lots was expected to be fixed at Rs 5 lakh on which auction would be held. The contractor, who would win the bid would be required to deposit a certain amount of money in the MC coffer.

The reserve price of the lots would be kept less so that parking rates at these sites were reasonable.

A large number of residents visit Sarabha Nagar Market, Malhar Road, where several restaurants are located and Ghumar Mandi, which is famous for clothing.

An MC official said the civic body would start the process of putting yellow lines in these parking lots where the vehicles would be parked.

MC on the other hand has started the process to cancel contracts of 13 parking lots situated on Ferozepur Road and a bid for their auction would also be invited soon.
