In an effort to ensure that fire tenders are able to pass through Chaura Bazaar in case of a fire, municipal corporation (MC) has decided to conduct a trial run of a fire tender in the area in coordination with its tehbazari and fire wings.
The area has several small and big markets, which make it a commercial hub of the city. Many fire mishaps have been reported from here, and most of the time, it was delayed arrival of fire tenders due to encroachments that led to loss.
Chaura Bazaar is an encroachment-infested area where let alone a four-wheeler, even movement of a two-wheeler becomes difficult during day time. Carts, roadside vendors and encroachments by shopkeepers have left the area severely congested. Despite several drives, the civic body has failed to clear the area of these encroachments.
Therefore, additional commissioner Devinder Singh, who is the chief of tehbazari as well as fire wings of MC, has decided that a meeting of shopkeepers of Chaura Bazaar would be held soon to tackle the menace. Thereafter, the fire and tehbazari wings will conduct the trial run in the area.
“I have decided to invite shopkeeper unions of the area to discuss the matter. It is in their benefit to remove the encroachments and allow easy movement of vehicles, as in case of an emergency, fire tenders would be able to reach the inner areas connected through the market easily,” Singh said.
The move comes in the backdrop of Singh's anti-encroachment drive at Bhadaur House, where he has issued notices to commercial establishments to not allow parking on roads.
