As many as 33 mobile phone towers here are facing disconnection as the companies concerned have failed to deposit the required fee in spite of repeated notices by the Municipal Corporation.

Sources disclosed that Mohali-based firm Bion Sebiz Square, that has installed these towers at different locations across the city, has been served two notices asking it to deposit the pending fee but the firm has ignored these notices.

In view of the indifferent attitude of the firm towards the notices, to which the firm has not even filed a reply, the civic body has started the process of removing these towers and MC commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh has given his consent to disconnect these towers.

The firm, having installed the towers, is liable to pay `5,000 per tower as an annual rent to the civic body, failing which a penalty of an equal amount is imposed on the firm. The annual rent has been raised to `10,000 per year from this fiscal year. The total amount pending to be paid as rent for these towers is in lakhs. Sources disclosed that the firm has not paid the rent for three financial years 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15.
