The municipal corporation (MC) has taken the initiative to develop a herbal park along Sidhwan Canal near Canal Bridge on Dugri Road. The MC will spend Rs 28 lakh on this park where it has also proposed to construct a reading-cum-rest room for the elderly.
The place, which was earlier filled with garbage, has now been cleaned and railings are being installed around the park. MC commissioner GK Singh Dhaliwal said, “We will develop this park and plant saplings here in the coming days.”
Surinder Singh, a resident of Model Town extension, said, “It is a good initiative by the MC. I got to know that herbal plants will be planted here.”
Advocate Gaganpreet Singh said, “Authorities should clean the parks and green belts on Ishmeet Singh Road to give them a beautiful look. Dumps should be removed from the green belts on the same road.”
Ward number 45 councillor Kamaljeet Singh Karwal said, “The park will be developed by October this year, adding that herbal plants of various kinds will be the main attraction of this park.”
MC executive engineer HS Bhullar said, “The work for development of this park is underway. A reading-cum-rest room will also be constructed in the park.”
