The municipal corporation (MC) allegedly delayed action into a complaint of illegal change of land use (CLU) by shop-cum-flat (SCF) owners in Model Town, Kitchlu Nagar, and other areas of the city.

In July, on the directions of the director of the local bodies department, Punjab, a letter was written to the municipal corporation commissioner by the chief vigilance officer to send a report after inspection of SCFs within 20 days.

Rohit Sabharwal, the complainant, accused the municipal corporationof not taking required steps to check the violations made by the owners of these SCFs.

Earlier also, in June, a complaint against the illegal change of land use by the owners of these SCF was also forwarded to the commissioner by the assistant town planner (headquarters).

According to the complainant, these SCF were allegedly converted into commercial sites without any perm-ission of the municipal corporation.

Meanwhile, assistant town planner (headquarters), Kamaljeet Kaur said she had no information regarding this issue.

When contacted, Monika Anand, assistant town planner at municipal corporation’s Zone D, said: “A survey is going on to check the violations. The report will be sent to higher authorities after completing the survey.”
