According to the victim, her father had given dowry gifts according to his financial status, but her in-laws started harassing her on one pretext or the other, demanding car and cash, but her father showed his inability owing to his poor financial health.
Later, when a male child was born in 2006, her in-laws demanded gold from her parents.

The victim alleged that when her parents could not fill their demands, she was subjected to spend time in loneliness and was given sedatives laced with medicines to torture her.

In her complaint, the victim further alleged that she was made to abort foetus when she got pregnant in 2013. Later, the victim said that she was sent to her father’s house with her eight-year-old son. When this correspondent contacted Tusli Dass Grewal on phone, he admitted of marital discord with his wife, but refused to having any knowledge of the FIR registered against him. The developments are in a way setback to the efforts of the khap leaders who were recently up in arms against female foeticide and crime against women.

A workshop on curbing honour killing and crime against women was held in January this year at the historical stage of Meham Chaubishi headed by khap pardan Tulsi Grewal.
