Meritorious school to coach for competitive exams

In order to provide special coaching for various competitive examinations to students of Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, the education department is all set to tie-up with private coaching institutes.
The meritorious school will now also provide free training for examinations such as JEE mains, JEE Advance, Entrance Tests for Medical stream, CLAT/ CPET and other undergraduate tests.

Talking about the education department’s move, district education of ficer (secondary) Paramjit Kaur Chahal said that the department has invited coaching institutes interested in such a tie- up for a presentation and discussion at the Punjab School Education Board office at SAS Nagar on July 28.

“In addition to the syllabus of Class 11 and 12 (English medium) prescribed by the board, we will conduct special classes for preparing students for such exams,” she said.

Parents hailed the education department’s move of providing free special training.
“Coaching for competitive examination is very expensive. We appreciate the initiative,” said Harvinder Singh, whose son has been admitted to the school.

Meanwhile, even as the school is all set to open on August 4, the education department is yet to hire a contractor for its hostel mess. Authorities said that school will begin to call for tenders only after the school begins.

“We will make temporary arrangements for food until a contractor is hired,” said Chahal.
