Metal worth Rs 70 lakh looted from factory

Burglars armed with weapons struck at a hand tool factory struck at a hand tool factory at Focal Point area on Friday late and looted cash and expensive metal worth lakhs. They thrashed the labourers present in the factory and held them captive.

The miscreants also took away the close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and recorder installed in the factory.

Factory owner Ram Kumar Datta of Phillaur said he incurred a loss of `70 lakh. The owner said the miscreants have stolen nickel, chrome, copper wire and die blocks from the factory, including cash from his factory Shiv Shakti exports located near Research and Development Centre in Focal Point area.

He said the labourers informed him about the incident on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. They told him that two miscreants armed with pistols and sharp-edged weapons intruded in the factory on Friday late and started threatening them. Meanwhile, eight more miscreants appeared there, and started thrashing them. The miscreants remained in the factory for at least one-and-a-half-hour.

After getting the information, the owner informed the police.

Inspector Surinder Singh, SHO at Focal Point police station stated that the police have initiated investigation in the matter. They suspect that the thieves had taken away the metal in a four-wheeler.
