Middleman booked for assaulting woman after she turns match down

A middleman, three members of his family and two others have been booked for assaulting and cheating a 19-year-old woman.

In her complaint to police, the victim, Seema Rani of Muradpura, alleged that the accused, Tarsem Lal, an acquaintance of hers, told her that he had found a suitable match for her who was 25 years old, and arranged a meeting.

Rani claimed that when she met the man, she was shocked to find that the man Lal was talking about was 45 years old. Therefore, she turned the man down.

She alleged that thereafter, Lal, along with his wife, brother, sister and two unidentified aides, intruded into her house and assaulted her for refusing to marry the man, adding that they also smashed her mobile phone, before fleeing the spot.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh, station house officer (SHO), Division Number 2 police station, said a case under sections 420 (cheating), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) had been registered against Lal and his accomplices. The police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
