Minister rules out hike in bus fares

Haryana transport minister Aftab Ahmed on Tuesday ruled out any hike in bus fares in the state. Reviewing the transport services here on Tuesday, he asked the general managers of Haryana roadways to ensure plying of buses on all routes. He also reviewed the facility of free travel provided to girl students.

Later presiding over a meeting of regional transport authorities, Ahmed directed them to effectively monitor inter-state transport vehicles plying without permit.

Transport commissioner Sumita Misra apprised the minister of department’s collection of Rs 1,094.85 crore against the target of Rs 850 crore during 2013-14. She asked the officers to immediately start driving training schools at all depots at the district headquarters.

Apart from this, the RTAs should ensure checking of the inter-state plying of buses on a fortnightly basis, she said.

Misra also directed the RTAs to conduct regular meetings of district road safety committees constituted to ensure road safety. Also, they should ensure setting up of the road safety clubs in every college.
