Police claimed that the accused Harjinder Singh had abducted the girl on the pretext of marriage.
Baghapurana ASI Rachhpal Singh (ASI) said, "The victim's father reportedly complained to the SSP. An inquiry was conducted and Harjinder Singh was found to be the accused.

When contacted, SSP Kamaljeet Singh Dhillon, said, "We have recorded the statements of the residents of Chand Purana village on Wednesday evening. No arrest has been made so far."

He added that to special teams had been formed to locate the girl and nab the culprit. "I hope the accused is behind bars soon."
