A 15-year-old minor girl from Jharkhand was allegedly sold for Rs 1 lakh to a 50-year-old man in Kharoda village of Moonak subdivision of the district. The victim has been identified as a resident of Headgoa village of Khuti district of Jharkhand.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Philip Khurj, ASI anti-human trafficking cell, Khuti police station, said, "The mother of the victim had filed a complaint to the anti-human trafficking cell of Jharkhand police on January 22. After the investigation, it was found that the victim's cousin Mahima had taken the girl to the market to buy her new clothes, where one Neeraj was waiting for them and he took Mahima and the victim to Surinder in Kurukshetra in Haryana."

"With the help of Surinder, they might have sold the girl to Ranveer in Kharoda village in Moonak," the ASI said adding, "The police have also sealed the bank account of Neeraj, in which Rs 1lakh were deposited."

With the help of local Khanauri police officials, the Jharkhand police arrested Ranveer Singh and took the girl in custody.

"During interrogation, the girl has disclosed that she was sexually abused by Ranveer Singh. We will register a fresh complaint in the case after further investigation and medical examination of the girl," he added.

The police produced Ranveer in the court of SDJM, Moonak, who sent him in three-day transit remand with the Jharkhand police.

Parminder Longowal, chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, has said, "In her statement, the victim girl has told that she was sexually abused by Ranveer Singh, on her statement we have forwarded the complaint to Jharkhand CWC, for medical examination of the girl."
