Minor girl raped in Moga, accused absconding

A man has been booked for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl on Sunday night.



Moga city south SHO Harinder Singh said 24-year-old Mangat Singh of Sadhanwali Basti was booked for allegedly raping the girl.

The maternal grandfather of the victim complained to the SSP that Mangat Singh who lived in the neighborhood entered their house and abducted the girl and took her to a tubewell at Ghall Kalan village, 8 km from here, and raped her.

The complainant said he had gone to work at Baghapurana and the victim was alone home. "When the family returned home, the girl was missed. We tried to look for her, but in vain. Then someone told us that Mangat had abducted the girl and we informed the police," he added.

The SHO said the girl was medically examined at the civil hospital and trhe rape was confirmed. While the police recovered the girl on Monday morning, the accused had fled, he added.

SSP Surjit Singh Grewal said the girl was handed over to the family. "Three special police teams have been constituted under an SP-level officer to catch the culprits. The police hoped to nab the accused soon, the SSP said.
