A Class-9 student, 14, was raped in a moving car on Saturday in the Longowal area of this district after being kidnapped from outside her school and, later, thrown out in front of a gurdwara.
The police were quick to launch a manhunt for accused Gursewak Singh (25) of Gahu Street, Longowal; and Gagni of Atla village in Longowal but they continue to be out of reach. Gursewak is an electrician and Gagni a farmer.
The first-information report (FIR) states that they kidnapped the girl on her way to school and dragged her into a car borrowed from a friend. Before the victim could raise alarm, they knocked her out with a drug-laced cold drink. "After that, Gursewak raped the girl on the rear seat, while Gagni kept driving. After two hours, the men threw her out of the car outside Gurdwara Dullat Patti in Longowal," the FIR further states.
The girl reported the incident to her parents, who lodged a complaint with the police. Longowal station house officer (SHO) Gurmel Singh said that the accused had been identified based on the statement of the victim, and both were missing from their houses. The girl had recorded her statement before duty magistrate after medical examination.
The case is registered under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 366-A (procreation of minor girl), and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison to commit an offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
