A Chandigarh man, who had reported his wife missing on July 13, had allegedly killed her in connivance with his girlfriend and then dumped her body, after burning it, in a village in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, Chandigarh Police claimed on Tuesday.

The body of 32-year-old Pooja was recovered from Bhagtupur village in Hoshiarpur district on Tuesday. Her husband Vijender Singh was arrested following murder allegations levelled by the victim's brother, Prem Chand, the police said.

The police added that Vijender Singh was having an affair with one Renu (28), who was present at the time of the murder in Sector 9, and the two had conspired to kill Pooja, who hails from Palampur in Himachal Pradesh. The police visited Renu's house in Bhagtupur village on Tuesday and she led them to the place where the body had been dumped.

Vijender Singh, who runs a fast-food joint at Sector 9 in Chandigarh, had on July 13 approached the police saying that his 32-year-old wife had gone missing. He had married Pooja, who is survived by a four-year-old daughter, in July 2008.
