Incidentally, Kuldeep, a resident of Ahtiana village of Raikot, had accused Harjinder Singh, an employee at Sidhu Hospital, Doraha, of abducting Ranjit. Following her complaint, Harjinder was booked under sections 365 (kidnapping), 34 (acts done in furtherance of common intention) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, and rounded up on Friday.

Khanna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sushil Kumar said following Kuldeep's complaint, the police on Friday formed a team comprising deputy superintendent of police (DSP) (Payal) Balwinder Singh, inspector Amardeep Singh, station house officer (SHO), Doraha police station, and sub-inspector Harjinder Singh, incharge, CIA, Khanna, to investigate the matter.

The team within 24 hours traced Ranjit to Chandigarh, and recovered her. DSP Balwinder said the nurse was traced to Hope Clinic, Sector 21, Chandigarh, where she had been working since her disappearance in March.

He added that Ranjit told the police that Kuldeep had adopted her around 21 years ago.

“The nurse told police that her foster mother used to harass her for money, following that their relations turned sour. To get rid of her foster mother, she discontinued using her mobile phone number and shifted to Chandigarh without telling anyone,” the DSP said.

“She also stated that Harjinder did not kidnap her and it was her own decision to move to Chandigarh. The police would produce her before the court, following which appropriate action would be taken regarding the case registered against Harjinder,” he added.

Meanwhile, according to Kuldeep, Ranjit had worked as staff nurse at Sidhu Hospital from 2011 to March 2013.

Kuldeep in her complaint to police had claimed that she used to meet her daughter at Sidhu Hospital until March this year. She had last talked to Ranjit over the phone on March 5. After that, when she visited the hospital to meet her daughter, Harjinder had misguided her and sent her back, she had alleged.

On the other hand, Harinder Singh, HR manager of Sidhu Hospital, Doraha, claimed that Ranjit had left the hospital in April 2012.
