Mistaken identity: Sangrur cops fire at car, two injured

Two brothers were injured when a police party, suspecting them to be gangsters, opened fired on their car near Malerkotla on Tuesday night.

Two brothers were injured when a police party, suspecting them to be gangsters, opened fired on their car near Malerkotla on Tuesday night.

The police said it was a case of mistaken identity. The victims, identified as Satwinder Kumar and Sunil Kumar, residents of Sherpur village, are undergoing treatment at DMC, Ludhiana. Police said a gangster, along with his accomplices, who were in a white Ford Figo Car, fired at cops at a naka at Sherpur Chowk and sped away.

The police started chasing the car. However, they mistook Satwinder and Sunil, who were also in a white Ford Figo, as gangsters and started firing at their vehicle.
