MLA announces Rs 2-lakh grant for 'Press room' at Manali

International Press Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the circuit house here on Saturday. Local MLA Govind Singh Thakur while expressing his views on the occasion said that it was high time that the mediapersons work to maintain the credibility of the Press.

International Press Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the circuit house here on Saturday. Local MLA Govind Singh Thakur while expressing his views on the occasion said that it was high time that the mediapersons work to maintain the credibility of the Press.


Thakur announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh for the completiton of the 'Press room'. He urged the journalists to not indulge in yellow journalism. Thakur said that media is the voice of the masses and watchdog of society. SDM Viney Dhiman said that media played a key role in building up public opinion. He said that journalists should report positive and developmental issues. Dharamvir Dhami, president of Manali Vikas Manch, expressed concern on the commercialisation of the Press. Manali Congress president Bhuvneshwer Gaur, president local Hoteliers Association Anup Thakur, Kullu Zila Parishad chairman Hari Chand Sharma, vice-president of local municipal council Chaman Kapoor, journalists CS Thakur, Mohan singh, Rajesh Sharma and Raj Aggarwal and Nitin Sharma also expressed their views on the occasion.

Assistant general manager, HPTDC, Manali, NK Bali, senior medical officer Dr Balbir Rawal, tehsildar P Tsering, former MC president Praveen Fakay, SHO NC Sharma were also present on the occasion.
