How he performed
There was no dearth of funds and he got a number of projects executed, including construction of a railway overbridge in Sahnewal and a bridge in Mattewara which has reduced traffic congestion. Though he also has duties as irrigation minister, he maintained constant touch with the electorate, and distributed grants of `25 crore towards rural development. Work was thus done on infrastructure in at least a dozen villages. While the constituency has a non-functional airport and a dearth of colleges, the residents feel construction of roads and improvement in sewerage and water supply have made a considerable difference. Another major project sanctioned during his tenure is a Cycle Valley at Dhanansu village to boost industry.

How he performed
When Ranjit Singh Dhillon became the first MLA of this new constituency, the area was underdeveloped, lacking even basic amenities such as carpeted roads and sewerage. At least 80 colonies of the area were got notified into the municipal corporation, after which these colonies were provided with roads, streetlights, water supply and sewerage. Three major roads were reconstructed soon after he took charge. He got upgraded two high schools to senior secondary level, and also established a high and a middle school. Besides, two hospitals of 30 beds each were built, and two dispensaries. He spent `50 crore on upgrading the power supply structure. But problems such as waterlogging and encroachment continue to trouble residents.

The MLA delivered what he promised. Roads that were dilapidated are in good shape now. A major concern is the increasing crime. He should have raised the issue in the assembly, Mushtaq Ali, 38, medical practitioner said.
