The municipal corporation (MC) project under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for creating modern dump at various places in the city is going to be operational within fortnight. As a trial, the very first modern dump was being made at Partap Bagh Nagar and is almost at the finishing stage.
Rajiv Verma, MC joint commissioner, Jalandhar, said the modern dump at Partap Bagh will be operational in 10-12 days. Other than Partap Bagh, seven more dumps will be made at preliminary stage after considering the merits and demerits of Partap Bagh dump. The other seven places are Model Town, areas adjoining Khalsa School, PIMS, Sai Das School, Niranakari Bhavan, Dussehra Ground, Basti Shiekh and Ram Nagar. Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the corporation is planning to have such more modern dumps at 70 major points.
The garbage will not be visible from this dump as this will be properly covered. The MC’s trucks carrying the garbage will enter the dump from one side, throw the garbage, and leave from the other side. As planned, a heap of garbage then will be taken to a solid waste management plant. The modern dump will be around 16 feet in height and 20 feet in breadth.
The motive of this project is to make the city garbage free. Heaps of the garbage at various places has been a cause of concern for residents. As told, these modern dumps will help to make the city filth free. Around 7 lakh will be invested for the construction of each dump.
