Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Himachal Pradesh in-charge Sanjay Singh on Tuesday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was behind the arrest of Delhi law minister Jitender Tomar.
He said, “Everything is happening on the directions of the Prime Minister .The fake degree matter is in the Delhi high court. So the Union government and the Delhi police should have waited for the court’s order before taking any action."
He said arrest was done to threaten the Aam Aadmi Party. He questioned the course of law and asked if this would have been the course of action adopted by the police if BJP leaders were involved.
He said, “Will the police react in same manner if union leader Smriti Irani and Lok Sabha member Rama Shakar Katheria were involved in the same issue? Can the police arrest or investigate them?” he added.
The minster was arrested on charges of allegedly submitting forged law degree while filing his nomination for the assembly polls.
An RTI reply had in April revealed that Tomar's undergraduate degree was fake just days after a Bihar-based university told the Delhi high court that the provisional certificate he used to enroll as a lawyer was fabricated.
A team of the Delhi Police had recently gone to a Bhagalpur University to probe Tomar's law degree.
