Locked in a tough battle against Congress rival Captain Amarinder Singh , Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for this Lok Sabha seat, Arun Jaitley, hopes the Friday rally of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will tilt the scales in his favour.
“The rally will make t he contest one-sided,” said Jaitley. The Modi wave is yet to show any impact in Punjab, though the SAD-BJP sees favourable impression wherever the PM nominee goes . Jaitley has already paraded some film stars and other celebrities here but Modi is the only superstar who can be a real game-changer.
He will hit the campaign trail in Punjab on Friday with a rally at Pathankot in support of Gurdaspur candidate Vinod Khanna and finish with canvassing in favour of Jaitley in Amritsar in the evening. During the day, Modi will also speak in Hoshiarpur, Bathinda, and Ludhiana.
Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal will attend the Amritsar rally, where the alliance hopes to make the maximum impact on the urban population. State BJP president Kamal Sharma said: “The Modi visit will give a boost to the SAD-BJP prospects in the state, and in Amritsar, it will have a major impact.
