Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that on one hand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi talks of women empowerment, and on the other, he taps their phones and stalks them with the help of the Gujarat police.
"In Delhi, there was a poster with a picture of Modi that read - "more power to women". He says he wants to give power to women, whereas in Mangalore, his party beats up women," Rahul said.
"20,000 women in Chhattisgarh have disappeared; and their (BJP) minister says he doesn't know where the women are. In Gujarat, Modi uses the police to stalk a woman and taps her phone," he added.
He further said that Sikhs were being thrown out of Gujarat after being called outsiders.
"A few days ago, a Sikh farmer had come to me from Gujarat. He was crying and held my hand and asked me if he was a citizen of this country. He told me he had come from Pakistan during Independence, but had been thrown out of Gujarat after being called an outsider," said Gandhi.
"He told me that the government had given him land in Gujarat, and few months ago, some officers threw his family out and asked to go back to Punjab. The Gujarat officers have thrown out thousand of Sikhs from Gujarat. You have Akali Dal here and they are contesting elections with the BJP and on the other, Sikhs are being thrown out of Gujarat," he added.
He stated that Modi spoke about curbing corruption, but at the same time, he was supporting corrupt ministers. "Just like money is being given to businessmen in Gujarat, a similar thing is happening here. Punjab has a lot of money but the money is concentrated in the hands of few people. Can't he see the corruption in Punjab, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh? The CM of Karnataka went to jail on corruption charges, but Modi stands on the stage with him and talks about corruption," he added.
