On Friday, HT had reported that a block Congress president was ready to join the Shiromani Akali Dal in the presence of its president, Sukhbir Singh Badal, in another few days. "Loyal Congressmen of the city had reported Sangha to be involved in anti-party activities," said Gurjit Singh Rana, convener of the Moga election campaign committee of the Congress.

The Congress committee had found the allegations to be true, said Rana, adding that the team had submitted its opinion to state party president captain Amarinder Singh on Friday, and on his directions, expelled Sangha. Sangha is a loyalist of Joginder Pal Jain, who has switched over to the SAD and become its candidate in the local by-election. When Jain left the Congress, Sangha skipped the function at Fatehgarh Sahib in which the-then legislator had moved over to the rival party.

"I have served the Congress loyally for the past 10 years," said Sangha. "I don't know why the senior Congress leadership expelled me from the party without hearing me out. Now I will sit with my supporters that decide the next course of action."
