Moga man held for 'raping' minor stepdaughter for one yr

The district police arrested a resident of Singhanwalal village in this district on Tuesday for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter for one year.

Jaswinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) of the city south police station, said that the victim, in her complaint to the senior superintendent of police (SSP), alleged that her mother had married Jaswinder Singh alias Jassa, a photographer at Moga, in her second marriage.

"We are three sister-brothers and, after second marriage, my mother had given birth to two more children. Unfortunately, my mother has been suffering from paralysis and has been taking medicines for the past few years. But my stepfather was giving some habit-forming drugs with medicines to my mother and, during night, he used to rape her," the victim mentioned in her complaint, said the police official.

Investigation officer, assistant sub-inspector, Paramjit Kaur, said, "According to the victim, she opposed her father several times but he threatened to kill her. When the victim told about this to her mother, Jassa beat up my mother also many a time."

After receiving the complaint, the SSP asked the police officials for taking strict action against the culprit immediately. The police brought the victim to the Dr Mathura Dass civil hospital for a medical check-up.

According to the police, a special board of the senior doctors conducted a medical examination of the victim and sent the report to the laboratory at Chandigarh.

The SHO said that a case has been registered against Jaswinder Singh alias Jassa under various sections of the Indian Penal Code at city south police station. "However, further investigation is underway and Jassa will be produced in court on Wednesday," said the police official.
