Lakhjinder Singh of Dharamkot village in Moga district, in a complaint to the senior superintendent of police, had alleged that travel agent Gurjit Singh, resident of sector-68 in Mohali allegedly duped him and his son Parminder Singh of Rs 11 lakh on the promise of sending them to Canada.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at Dharamkot police station, Gurpal Singh said the travel agent had also taken passports and other necessary documents from the victims.
The Moga senior superintendent of police has ordered police officials to investigate the entire matter.
According to police officials, the main complainant Lakhjinder Singh complained that travel agent was allegedly assured him that he can send him and his son Parminder Singh to Canada within fifteen days.
After a preliminary investigation into the allegations, the police have registered a case of fraud against Lakhjinder Singh under various sections of the IPC at Dharamkot police station, the police official said, adding that further investigation is on so far.
Moga SSP Kanwaljit Singh Dhillon said: "I have formed a special police team for nabbing the culprit under the supervision of DSP-level officer. Special raids have been conducted. The offender will be caught soon.
