Rights activist Jaspal Singh, the father of Ekam Dhillon (39), who was allegedly killed by his wife Seerat Kaur Dhillon at their rented accommodation in Phase 3B1, SAS Nagar, has claimed that his son wanted his properties that he had got registered in the name of his mother-in-law Jaswinder Kaur’s name back before leaving his wife.
Ekam’s body was found bundled in a suitcase in a BMW car outside the building on Sunday morning. Jaspal said Ekam did so since he and Seerat were facing a criminal case in the Citrus Council Scam and feared forfeiture of these properties in case court ordered decree had they been convicted.
“Ekam had commercial properties in Gurgoan and used to get a monthly rent of Rs 60,000 from them. He made the mistake of getting these properties along with a property in Mullanpur and the BMW car registered in his mother-in-law’s name,” he said . “He wanted to leave Seerat. For four days before the murder, the children saw Ekam and Seerat fight daily,” said Jaspal.
SEERAT CHANGING STATEMENT TO MISLEAD POLICE PROBE
Seerat Dhillon has been trying to mislead police by giving contradictory statements since. Soon after her arrest, she had told the police that she shot Ekam citing domestic violence as the trigger for murder.
When she was produced before the magistrate in the district courts, SAS Nagar, the next day, she said she shot Ekam in self-defence and that he used to waste money, leading to a dispute between them.
She had even told the police that her brother Vinay Pratap Singh and his friend Jagat helped her destroy evidence but later said Vinay was not present in her house that night. After her arrest, she even claimed that it was a planned murder then changed her statement, saying Vinay had only come to sort out the differences between her and Ekam Dhillon.
“She is lying. She shot my son. But she was not alone while committing the crime. The mastermind behind the murder should be arrested,” said Ekam’s father. “The police informed me that Seerat had confessed to her crime. She has been changing her statement. She even once told the police that the bullet was fired by her brother Vinay Pratap Singh in a scuffle but then soon went back on her statement saying they only helped her destroy evidence,” he said.
“Seerat is giving contradictory statements to create a confusion to mislead the police. Raids are being conducted to nab the other accused,” said SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal.
