Tightening noose around those who violate the MC norms, the civic body has sent over 100 challans to the court for further action.
This is for the first time that the MC has moved court for violations including encroachments, smoking in public places and usage of polybags.
According to the municipal corporation (MC) officials, 122 challans issued to the shopkeepers in different markets of the city to curb tehbazari (makeshift stalls/rehris) and corridor encroachments have been forwarded to the court.
Thus the shopkeepers would have to appear before the court to pay fine. SAS Nagar MC joint commissioner Nayan Bhullar said, “We have been issuing challan but most of the vendors re-establish their vends even after getting fined. After challaning them this time, we sent these to the court.”
Besides, 19 vendors and other traders have been issued challans worth Rs 2,000 each for using polythene bags despite ban.
The MC has also challaned 19 persons for smoking in public place.
