Anandpur Sahib member Parliament (MP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra announced that the union civil aviation ministry will start a flight from Chandigarh International Airport in Mohali to Nanded Sahib, via Mumbai, from November 15 onwards.
The announcement comes after the MP met with Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju in Delhi on Tuesday.
“The new flight will provide convenient facility to Sikh pilgrims visiting Takht Hazoor Sahib at Nanded,” Chandumajra said.
He added that the pilgrims had to travel from New Delhi to Mumbai and then to Nanded Sahib to pay obeisance at one of the five holy shrine of Sikhism.
“I have been raising this issue at several platforms including Lok Sabha and had also met minister concerned and officials of civil aviation department on several occasions. Finally, the department has given its nod, giving perfect Diwali gift to Sikh pilgrims,” Chandumajra said.
He added that with this, the long pending demanding of Sikh community has been fulfilled.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandakh Committee president Kirpal Singh Badungar appreciated Chandumajra’s effort.
