“My sister can’t commit suicide. She was so god fearing. She has definitely been murdered,” repeatedly said Narinder Pal Kaur, Gagandeep’s sister. Gagan was from Malerkotla, was a divorcee and had been living-in with Manpreet Singh, an unemployed man, at a flat in TDI City for the past five months.

“After her divorce last year, we stayed briefly in Sohana at rented accommodation before my sister shifted at Manpreet’s flat,” claimed Narinder.

She said that they met near city and fell in love. “Even Manpreet’s family knew about their relationship,” she claimed, adding that one could easily make out that that her death was not suicide as she had been hit hard on face before throwing in some choe in Mohali.

“If that is not the case then how come her entire body is cleaned except the face which us beyond recognition,” questioned the sister. Raising the finger of suspicion towards Manpreet, who is now untraceable, she claimed that since her sister had been lost, Manpreet had shown no urgency to report the matter to the police or to trace her.

Police, however, remain tight-lipped.

“He first told me that she had gone to temple near their home hours before she went away. When days passed and she did not return, I called him up requesting that we move the police. He advised me against it, saying the police will do nothing,” she claimed.

“On September 5, I got a call from him, asking me to start locating her near the canal streams as he feared that her sister might have committed suicide as her mental status was not sound,”.

“We met the in-charge of Sohana police station and demanded a fair probe since we are certain that something really bad has happened to her,” she said

HT tried to reach Manpreet Singh for his side of version, but he could not be contacted.

Will question Manpreet, Sohana SHO

When asked about family’s allegations, Sohana SHO Rajan Parminder Singh said that the matter is under investigation. We will explore all the points as raised by the family including questioning the man with whom the deceased was living. “The post mortem report, which is awaited, will throw more light in this case,” he said.

No one has been arrested or booked so far.
