The college has been selected among 200 colleges across the country which will start the concept.
“Community colleges are a parallel system of education aimed at empowering the youth through appropriate skill-based education. These colleges help in developing skills for employment and self-employbility among the youth,” said principal Sukhbir Singh Thind.
The proposed colleges will come up in collaboration with the local industry partners, who will provide skill-oriented education to the youth.
These colleges will offer short-duration credit-based modules leveraging on the National Vocational Educational Framework to facilitate mobility of the learners in the growing employment sector.
It aims at skill development and self-employability among the youth with special reference to the marginal and underprivileged sections of society. Community colleges will provide opportunities for life-long educational needs of the individuals.
The proposed colleges will provide tailormade courses for industry and adopt a flexible entry and exit system to facilitate the learners.
Preference will be given to the local community and tradition-based skills. “These colleges will be a source of economic development as they will provide skilled workforce which may contribute in various forms to uplift the economy,” the principal said.
