If the scorching heat has taken your breath away and you yearn for cooler days, May could start on a happy note. Even as the prediction for Sunday is of higher temperature — around 40 degrees
Celsius, more than the week gone by — Monday will see light rain. Sunday will remain dry and hot.
“Western disturbances will affect the weather of the region during the first week of May. There is possibility of a dust storm with light rain by the evening of May 2,” an official from the meteorological department said, adding that the next week will be pleasant with possibility of light rain and cloudy sky from May 2-7.
Friday (May 6) comes in for special mention in a Met release that goes on add, “Rain or thunderstorm is likely to occur at a few places in the region till May 6 and the temperature would thus drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius.”
As predicated by the Met, 2016 will be warmer than 2015.
In Chandigarh, the mean average temperature recorded in January was around 1 degree above normal and in February, it was 2 degrees above
normal. March was equally hotter with the average monthly temperature at 1.6 degrees above normal. Changed weather patterns have, thus, been a major talking point this year.
