In a move that would boost international connectivity of Amritsar, Armavia Airlines would operate flights from the holy city to Yerevan and Birmingham, Rome and Milan from July 25 onwards. It would benefit Punjabis residing in European nations.

"Armavia Airlines will operate flights twice a week (Monday and Tuesday) on the Yerevan-Amritsar-Yerevan route. From Yerevan, passengers can get further connecting flights to Birmingham, Rome and Milan," Sree Guru Ram Das International Airport director Suneel Dutt said.

Initially, the flight would be operated twice a week but we would request the airline to make it four times a week, he added.

Already, there are connecting flights from Amritsar to London, Doha, Dubai and few other international destinations.

The airport director stressed that their aim was to improve connectivity of Amritsar with the outside world so as to benfit region's people.

SpiceJet's Amritsar-Srinagar flight announced recently would also boost domestic operations, he added.

Sachin Chadha, representative of Armavia Airlines, said, "We aim at providing the best of facilities to our passengers and hope of getting a good response. This flight will ensure prominent European connection such as Birmingham, Milan and Rome."
