More than 100 special training resource (STR) teachers, who had converged to stage a protest, were detained here on Friday.

The Bathinda police were on their toes since Thursday evening to ensure that the STR teachers didn't enter the city. The police had sealed all the entry points of the city, but some of the teachers still managed to enter the city and gathered near the police station on Friday.

Raising slogans against the government, the teachers started a march towards the mini-secretariat, but they were detained on way at the Fire Brigade chowk. Kotwali police detained around 100 teachers.

STR teachers have been agitating for long to press the government to meet their demands, which include release of their pending salaries and regularisation of jobs. About 130 STR teachers are already behind bars.
