To protest against the supply of packed cooked food to children in anganwadis, the activists of Anganwadi Mother Groups staged a demonstration in Hisar, demanding roll back of the scheme.

They said it was a clear-cut violation of the Supreme Court's instructions given in 2007, wherein the court had directed the states to give fresh cooked food to the children and the government had engaged mother groups to cook the food.

Recently, the women working in mother groups had called on women and child development minister Gita Bhukkal to increase the remuneration per child from Rs 1 to Rs 2. The new scheme is likely to deprive the each member of the mother groups of the meagre monthly income of Rs 300.

The mother groups have urged the government to shelve the packed food plan and increase the remuneration of the workers who cook food for children. They claim that packed food is unhealthy and would harm the children.
