Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu’s car was allegedly attacked by a party worker, Charanjit Singh Grewal alias Jasraj Grewal, near Circuit House on Sunday for ‘not paying his dues’ that left the windowpane of the vehicle broken.
Grewal, who is the district general secretary of Kisan and Khet Majdoor cell of the party, alleged that Bittu had not paid him the pending amount of Rs 1.31 lakh since Lok Sabha polls last year against the banners he had installed at various points in the city. “When I demanded my dues, Bittu threatened me,” he said, adding that he had filed a complaint in this context at the police commissioner office.
However, Bittu denied all allegations levelled by Grewal and said the attack was sponsored by the SAD-BJP alliance as he had raised voice in Lok Sabha against the Orbit Bus company owned by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. Bittu questioned why Grewal did not raise his voice for the pending bills since the last one year. The Ludhiana MP alleged that his security was breached and his vehicle was vandalized.
“SAD can apply such tactics but my voice will not be suppressed and I will continue the war against Badal, his businesses and drugs,” said Bittu.
Meanwhile, when photojournalists of various newspapers captured the incident, the Youth Congress members assaulted them. The leaders, including Gurjeet Singh Seenh (from Atam Nagar constituency) and Raman Subramaniam allegedly hurled abuses on the media and asked them to shut their cameras. They also snatched their cameras and broke it. Though Congress MLA from Ludhiana West constituency Bharat Bhushan Ashu tried to intervene, but to no avail. The MLA was allegedly slapped and abused by his partymen.
Bittu had come to Circuit House to launch a web portal of the party and to distribute identity cards among the party workers on Sunday.
The PAU police have detained four members of Youth Congress for attacking the media.
