A youth riding a motorcycle snatched a gold earring from the mother of Hoshiarpur MP Vijay Sampla outside their house at the local Dilbagh Nagar Extension near 120 Feet Road here on Saturday evening.

Bimla, 75, suffered injuries and was admitted to a private hospital from where she was discharged after doctors gave her a few stitches on the ear. The doctors said her ear required whole crafting or plastic surgery.

Sampla has been camping in New Delhi for the past few days. His son Sahil was the only one home with Bimla.

The snatching took place around 5.30 pm as Bimla was sitting outside her house. The motorcyclist entered the street and reached its dead end. The youth asked Bimla about the street and as she replied, he snatched the earring from her left ear and fled.

Bimla fell on the road in an unconscious condition. Passersby informed Sahil who was inside the house. BJP leader Amit Taneja and others reached the house and took Bimla to hospital.

“We have registered a case and are investigating the matter. We are questioning several people,” said deputy commissioner of police Naveen Singla, who reached the spot after getting information.

Singla said they had vital information that the snatcher targeted only old women and there was a link between this snatching and Thursday’s snatching at Link Colony.

When contacted, Sampla said he had talked to the police commissioner about the issue and would return to Jalandhar on Sunday. Sampla said the doctors had given her stitches and she would be taken to another hospital on Sunday.
