Flexing his muscles in his home district after a long silence, senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar on Sunday began a 65-km ‘paidal yatra’ (march on foot) from Muktsar to Abohar, which he plans to complete in two days.
Brar, accompanied by his supporters, reached Malout in the evening after passing through Barkandi, Rupana, Chack Duhewala, Thrajwala and Aulakh villages. He would spend the night at Malout, from where he would start the rest of his journey on Monday morning.
His march is being widely seen as a move to strengthen his base in the home district after long as he has been involved in the national politics of the Congress for quite some time.
Jagmeet has taken up the journey to make people aware of issues such as the Bhim Tank murder at the farm house of an akali leader in Abohar, spurt in suicides by farmers, the drug menace, lack of action by the government in sacrilege incidents and the demand for booking the police officers accused in opening fire at Behbal Kalan village in Faridkot.
