The city police claim to have solved the murder of 26-year-old Gautam Yadav, a resident of Mohalla Number-12, on Wednesday evening with the arrest of his friend Kartik, 23.

Additional deputy commissioner of police-2 Amrik Singh Powar said Kartik and Gautam has been classmates. Kartik allegedly told the police that both of them consumed drugs in the Dussehra ground in the cantonment area late on Monday night, following which they entered into a scuffle over the issue of consuming the drug in excess.

The accused allegedly pushed Gautam, due to which he fell on the ground and his head hit a heavy stone, said the ADCP, adding that closed-circuit television cameras had also captured Kartik and the victim roaming on a scooter before the crime took place.

Gautam was running a dairy business with his father Raj Kumar. He had come from Ambala on Sunday to celebrate his first wedding anniversary. A case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Kartik. He will be produced in court on Thursday.
