Some miscreants opened fire at the joint teams of Patiala and Jalandhar commissionerate police late Friday in Rajpura of Patiala district, after they signalled a car to stop for checking.
The Jalandhar police got a tip-off that some persons, suspected to be involved in a double murder case that took place on February 27 in Jalandhar and the murder of a Hoshiarpur man in broad daylight on Thursday, were going somewhere.
A team of Jalandhar commissionerate police, comprising assistant commissioner of police (crime) Harjinder Singh, SHO Bimal Kant and two officers of CIA staff, from Rajpura city police jointly placed a naka outside Midway Dhaba in Rajpura around 9 pm.
The team member signaled a silver Ford Fiesta car (PB08-0006) to stop.
The police said the occupants inside the vehicle were Jaspinder Singh, alias Goldy, a resident of Chak Gujra in Hoshiarpur, Jatinder Singh, alias Sheru, a resident of Kukkar Pind, Amanpreet Singh of Manna Talwandi village in Kapurthala and Johney of Suchhi Pind in Jalandhar. Jaspinder Singh was reportedly driving the vehicle.
After seeing the police, Sheru opened fire with a country-made weapon. The police chased the vehicle and nabbed them.
A case has been registered against the accused at the Rajpura police station under various sections of IPC and Arms Act. The accused have been sent in police custody till March 12.
Deputy commissioner of police Rahul S said police would bring them on production warrant and interrogate them in double murder case by the Bhana gang on February 27 in Basti Bawa Khel locality.
Both Sheru and Goldy have been also been named in the murder of 35-year-old Naresh Kumar of Basant Nagar in Hoshiarpur.
