Mystery shrouded the death of two youth, who were missing for the past over three months.
Police have registered a case of murder following the complaint of the victims’ kin against one of their friends on the basis of suspicion.
The victims have been identified as Gurpreet Singh (22) and Nishan Singh (22), both residents of Acharala Khurd village in Patiala district.
Investigating officer Harvinder Singh said a case had been registered against Harsewak Singh, a resident of the same village.
The officer said Harpal Singh, a brother of one of the victims, alleged that both the victims accompanied the accused to Uttar Pradesh on a combine machine during the last harvesting season to earn money and had been missing since then — September 9.
Police said the complainant alleged that the accused returned home, while both the victim didn’t return till date.
The complaint also alleged that the accused had disposed of the bike of the victims.
“A case has been registered only on the basis of suspicion against the accused, while police have started investigation,” said the officer.
He added that a team had been sent to arrest the accused for further investigation, while another team was sent to get the record of unidentified bodies fished out of the Bhakhra main line canal at Khanauri in Sangrur district in the past three months.
“The case will be tracked at the earliest as police have been working on various leads obtained since the registration of the case on Wednesday,” said the officer.
