Mystery shrouds newly-wed woman's death

Mystery shrouds the death of a woman, Manpreet Kaur, on her wedding night in Batha Kalan village of Fatehgarh Sahib district. The woman's husband, Kesar Singh, has also been admitted to a Chandigarh-based hospital, after he reportedly tried to commit suicide by slashing his wrists.

Mane Majra village (Chamkaur Sahib) resident Manpreet Kaur had been engaged to Kesar Singh for nearly two years and the marriage was solemnized on October 21 day.

Manpreet's body was found on the bed with a pool of blood around her.

Sources said that Kesar's family first tried to mislead relatives and the police by claiming that that Manpreet was murdered in a an attack on their home by thieves.

However, the victim's brother Sukhwinder Singh alleged that her sister was murdered for dowry. The Khamano police has registered a case against the husband Kesar Singh and other relatives. The police is working on various theories and there is suspicion that Manpreet was strangulated by Kesar.
