A 33-year-old woman, identified as Baljinder Kaur, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her rented accommodation in the local Green Avenue area on Sunday.

Kaur lived alone in the house and ran a beauty parlour from there.

The police have started proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code and are investigating the case from all angles.

After getting information about the incident, the police reached the house. Civil lines station house officer inspector Sukhwinder Randhawa said, "We got information about the incident at around 12.30 pm and when we reached the house, the body of Baljinder Kaur was lying on the bed.

A portion of her dupatta was hanging from the ceiling fan and another portion was around her face."

Kaur, who was married, was living alone in the house as she had some differences with her family. "We are investigating the matter thoroughly and the post-mortem report will throw more light on the cause of death," added the SHO.

The police claimed that when the maidservant went to the house for routine work, she spotted the body. They claimed that when the maid entered the house, the body was not hanging from the ceiling fan but was lying on the bed.
The police also claimed to have recovered two liquor bottles from the house.
