As many as 52 students of Government Middle School, Bharadi, in Nohradhar area, the home constituency of chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Vinay Kumar, allegedly fell ill after consuming the midday meal on Monday.

According to sources, as soon as the food was served to students, they started vomiting and complained of uneasiness, indicating food poisoning. The students were hospitalised and are reported to be stable.

The incident has one again brought the quality of midday meal, served in the remote areas of Sirmaur, under scanner.
Locals alleged that the food was not being inspected before being served to the students.

Meanwhile, CPS Vinay Kumar has directed the deputy director (elementary education) to submit a report within a week. He said the affected students were being treated.

Earlier, around eight months back, a similar incident had occurred when contaminated food was served in a sports tournament.
